Woods Hole Coast Guard members to receive Partnership in Education award

Northeast Atlantic Coast Guard NewsBOSTON — The crews of the Coast Guard Cutter Tybee and Coast Guard Aids to Navigation Team Woods Hole, Mass., are scheduled to receive the Coast Guard Partnership in Education award during a ceremony Monday at 1 p.m.

The crews will be recognized for their participation with expanding and improving the existing PIE program at Morse Pond Elementary School.

Over the past year, 37 crewmembers volunteered 240 hours working with two classes at the school and ensured weekly visits with the students.

Crews provided a broad range of support including mentorship, individual and group tutoring in math, one-on-one engagement on science fair projects and additional tutoring for struggling students.

They also participated in school-wide events, including anti-bullying awareness efforts, a Veteran’s Day ceremony and garden rehabilitation.

Each year the Coast Guard recognizes units, schools, business partners, military members and civilian personnel who made significant contributions to local communities through the service’s Partnership in Education program.
