Woman rescued off cruise ship Carnival Paradise by Coast Guard crew near Boca Grande, Fla.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. – A 65-year-old woman was rescued by an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, off a cruise ship 71 miles west of Boca Grande, Florida, today.

The captain of the cruise ship, Carnival Paradise, notified watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector St. Petersburg, Florida at 10:46 p.m. Monday reporting the woman needed medical assistance due to chest pains. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and recommended the woman be medically evacuated.

The Jayhawk crew arrived on scene at approximately 1 a.m., hoisted the patient and the cruise ship nurse and transported them to Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Florida, at approximately 1:50 a.m.
