MIAMI – A Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Fla., rescue crew medically evacuated an 88-year-old woman from a cruise ship 225 miles southwest of Miami at about 4 p.m., today.
The Coast Guard received a call at 10:42 a.m. today from the Miami-based, 963-foot, Royal Caribbean cruise ship Brilliance of the Seas, reporting that a woman on board had a possible broken leg and internal bleeding.
Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater immediately launched an HH-60 Jayhawk helicopter and Coast Guard Air Station Miami launched an HU-25 Falcon jet to assist with the rescue. The rescue crews arrived on-scene at 3:48 p.m. and hoisted the injured woman safely into the helicopter.
The woman is being transferred to Southwest Florida Regional Medical Center in Ft. Myers, Fla.
Her condition was listed as stable.
