The Coast Guard Cutter Bridle, from Southwest Harbor, Maine and the Cutter Tackle, from Rockland, Maine, both 65-foot harbor tugs, break ice in the Penobscot River, in Brewer, Maine, Jan. 16, 2009. The cutters have been breaking ice since December and the season often goes into March, depending on weather. Ice conditions remain moderate on the upper Penobscot and ice is expected to continue building up with colder temperatures forecast later in the week.
