MIAMI — A search-and-rescue crew with Coast Guard Air Station Miami medically evacuated a male from the Carnival Imagination cruise ship 24 nautical miles east of Islamorada, Fla., Monday.
Watchstanders at the Coast Guard 7th District command center received the report from a medical team aboard the cruise ship of an 84 year-old man experiencing symptoms of a heart attack and required a higher level of care.
After consulting with the flight surgeon, he was recommended for evacuation and transported to a nearby hospital. An MH-65 helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami launched in response to the report.
Upon arriving on scene, the man was safely hoisted from the cruise ship and transported to Jackson Memorial Hospital for further medical care.
