SAN DIEGO — A U.S. Coast Guard aircrew medically evacuated a woman from a cruise ship after she began experiencing internal bleeding nearly 600 miles south of San Diego, Friday.
The crew of the Carnival Miracle contacted the Joint Harbor Operation Center just before 11 p.m., Thursday, requesting a medevac for the 34-year-old American.
An MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched from Coast Guard Sector San Diego, met the ship and completed the hoist by 12:46 p.m. The ship was nearly 300 miles south of San Diego at the time of the medevac. A Coast Guard Air Station Sacramento-based HC-130 Hercules aircraft crew also flew to provide communication support.
The crew transported the woman to Coast Guard Sector San Diego, where she was transferred to emergency medical personnel for further care at 2:35 p.m.
