Charleston, S.C. – The trawler Fifth Season, homeported in Baltimore, Md., collided with the south jetties outside of Charleston Monday night at approximately 8:30 pm.
The boat began taking on water and was grounded on the jetties where it remained overnight. The Coast Guard, Tow Boat U.S., and the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources responded to the incident.
The only passenger on board, Michael Nace, 55, was not injured in the collision.
The Coast Guard has issued a Notice of Federal Interest because of the possible pollution hazard to the environment from the diesel fuel and petroleum products on the vessel.
Fifth Season was lifted by a crane barge at approximately 2 p.m. this afternoon.
