Vessel Runs Aground, Blocks Shipping Channell

SAVANNAH, Ga. – The Coast Guard is responding to a 965-foot container ship that ran aground approximately two-miles east of Tybee Island, Ga., Wednesday at approximately 11 a.m.

The Ever Radiant, a Panamanian-flagged vessel, reportedly loss propulsion while leaving the Port of Savannah in the Bloody Point Range. The ship’s pilot immediately contacted the Coast Guard after the grounding. A small boat from Coast Guard Station Tybee Island, a helicopter from Air Station Savannah and tugs are en route to investigate and assist the Ever Radiant.

The navigational channel is blocked at this time. There have been no reports of pollution from the grounding. The Ever Radiant’s last port of call was Baltimore.
