U.S. Coast Guard officials rescued a man off Tillamook Bay this morning after his boat was overcome by a wave and he was tossed overboard.
Petty Officer Ranae Johnston said the fisherman, Elliot Herder, of Rockaway Beach, was thrown into the water near the South Jetty of Tillamook Bay sometime after 9:30 a.m. A Good Samaritan called the Coast Guard to report seeing a vessel take on a wave and possibly capsize, she said.
The vessel, named Outlaw, had one person on board. The man was scooped up by Coast Guard officials who said he was in good physical shape but shaken up by the ordeal.
His boat washed ashore and is awaiting salvage.
