Updated Locations for Children’s Lifejacket Trade-in

LOS ANGELES – The Long Beach trade-in site at the Wal-Mart at 7480 Carson St, Long Beach has been changed. Trade-ins will not be conducted at this site. The new sites will be at Davies Launch Ramp in Long Beach and Castaic Lake on Saturday, May 24, 2008 from 8 a.m. until 11 p.m. in conjunction with U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary boat safety checks.

The other previously announced locations at Sam’s Clubs at 6363 Valley Springs Pkwy, Riverside and 16555 Von Karman Ave, Irvine will accept children’s lifejacket trade-ins from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. on Friday, May 23, 2008.

According to California law, children under 12 who are riding in a boat 26-feet or less must wear a Coast Guard-approved lifejacket.

This National Safe Boating Week (May 17-24, 2008) event is being held through the cooperation of community partners – Cal Boating, Radio Disney, CBS Radio, Sacramento Safe Kids Coalition, Drowning Accident Rescue Team (DART), Sam’s Club, U.S. Coast Guard, and U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary. The focus is on preventing water-related accidents involving children.
