SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The search continues this morning for a missing aircraft that departed from Catalina Airport yesterday afternoon.
The ongoing joint search effort includes crews from the U.S. Coast Guard, the L.A. County Fire Department, L.A. County Sheriff’s Department and the Orange County Sheriff’s Deptartment.
A Coast Guard C-130 aircraft is searching, along with the Coast Guard Cutter Halibut, an 87-foot patrol boat, and boats from the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department, Orange County Sheriff’s Department and the L.A. County Fire Department.
Mark Hogland, the pilot of the missing aircraft, was last seen leaving Catalina Island flying a Bonanza at around 4:50 p.m. Two passengers suspected of being aboard the missing aircraft have not been confirmed. The plane was expected to arrive at John Wayne airport at 5:10 p.m.
The fiancé of the pilot first reported the overdue aircraft to the Coast Guard at 10:30 p.m yesterday. Coast Guard Sector Los Angles – Long Beach issued an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast and have been actively searching since the report.
