BUFFALO, N.Y. – U.S. inspectors from Coast Guard Sector Buffalo and an inspector from Transport Canada saved a man suffering from symptoms of a heart attack on a pier in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, Wednesday afternoon.

Lt. Cmdr. Maureen Johnson, Lt. Christopher Mercurio, Lt. Gregory Jensen, Chief Warrant Officer David Baisden, and Kurt Benson were members of a team alongside a member of Transport Canada conducting routine annual inspections on the Niagara Falls tour boats owned by the company Maid of the Mist when they witnessed one of the company’s personnel collapse on a nearby pier.

The man suffered injuries to his face when he fell.

The inspectors started cardio pulmonary resuscitation and bandaged the man’s wounds, providing treatment until emergency medical services arrived and took the man by ambulance to a local hospital.

The man was last known to be in stable condition.
