Two rescued from sinking boat near Shilshole Bay

SEATTLE – Two people were safely rescued from a 30-foot pleasure craft near Shilshole Bay, Wash., after the vessel began taking on water today.

Coast Guard Sector Seattle received a call at 12:15 p.m. from the Seattle Harbor Marine Patrol reporting that a male and female were in distress and their vessel was taking on water 300 yards west of Shilshole Bay.

A Coast Guard 41-foot utility boat crew from Station Seattle was launched to the scene.

Coast Guard Marine Safety and Security Team (MSST) 91101 diverted a 25-foot small response boat crew and was first to arrive on scene.

The MSST crew was able to rescue the two people on board the sinking vessel safely and transfer them to a Seattle Harbor Patrol vessel.

The pleasure craft remains partially submerged and salvage efforts are underway.

The cause of the incident and possible environmental impact are being investigated.
