MARATHON, FL – Two people were rescued by a Coast Guard cutter today after their small plane crashed in the Florida Keys. The plane had taken off from Marathon Airport and went down about 5 miles from Marathon. The crash was reported by a Good Samaritan.
Coast Guard Lieutenant Command Chris O’Neil told local media that there were only two people on the plane and that they were not injured.
The plane was intact when the Coast Guard arrived and both people were in the water, with life jackets on according to David Gilkinson, the search and rescue coordinator.
