Two People Rescued From Sailboat

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – A Coast Guard crew from Station Cape Charles, Va., rescued two people this morning from a sailboat beset by heavy weather about one-mile off the coast of the Virginia Eastern Shore.

The crew of the sailing vessel Trident notified the Coast Guard at 8:42 a.m. today that they were in rough weather and were suffering from pain, possibly hypothermia. Station Cape Charles crewmen arrived on-scene at approximately 10:25 a.m. aboard a 25-foot rescue boat and transfered the two sailors and returned them to shore where medical personnel were standing by.

Salvage crews are enroute to the adrift vessel and will tow it back ashore.
