Fort Bragg, CA – The U.S. Coast Guard rescued 40-year-old Logan Bengton from Fort Bragg who had been surfing Sunday morning with a friend.
Coast Guard Group Humboldt Bay received a call at 9:20 a.m. from Mr. Bengton’s friend stating he was in trouble and drifting out to sea off the coast of Mackerricher State Park. The Coast Guard issued a urgent marine information broadcast for any boaters in the area to assist if possible. An HH65 helicopter from Air Station Humboldt Bay, two 47 foot motor life boats from Station Noyo River and a ground unit were dispatched for the search and rescue response.
The surfer was located at approximately 9:44 a.m., by the motor life boat where he was taken aboard in good condition and transported to Station Noyo River.
