Two Missing Boys Safely Home

SATAWAL, Yap — Two teenage boys who were reported missing Sunday (Hawaii Standard Time) from Yap in the Federated States of Micronesia arrived home safely at midnight today (HST).

The sailors were able to keep land in sight, and, after sea conditions subsided, were able to row back to shore safely.

A C-130 search crew from Air Station Barbers Point in Honolulu was launched to assist with the search at 1 a.m. Sunday (HST).

Coast Guard search and rescue controllers in Honolulu helped coordinate efforts between numerous assets to conduct a thorough search. The two sailors did let friends know their intended voyage which aided in narrowing the search area, but poor visibility hampered searchers.
