Two dead, one recovered and one missing after boat capsizes in Brunswick River

65 New OrleansBRUNSWICK, Ga. – The Coast Guard continues to search for a missing man after the boat he was in capsized Wednesday.

Watchstanders at the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center received the initial report at approximately 7:15 p.m. Wednesday, from Georgia DNR stating that a boat carrying four men had capsized in the Brunswick River near the Sidney Lanier Bridge.

One man was found unresponsive in the water near shore by a Georgia DNR crew and was confirmed deceased by local EMS Wednesday night.

A second man was rescued by a Georgia DNR crew Wednesday night.  The survivor was found wearing a lifejacket and was treated at the scene by local EMS.

The third man was found deceased in the Brunswick River Thursday morning as the search for one missing boater continues.

The body of the deceased man was located by a Georgia Department of Natural Resources search crew at approximately 7:30 a.m. near the Sidney Lanier Bridge.

 

Coast Guard crews are searching for the remaining missing man aboard the following assets:

  • a 29-foot Response Boat — Small from Coast Guard Station Brunswick
  • a 45-foot Response Boat — Medium from Coast Guard Station Brunswick
  • an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Savannah

Members of Georgia Department of Natural Resources and the Coast Guard Auxiliary are also assisting in the search.
