NEWPORT, Ore. — Two children were rescued from the rocks at Agate Beach, Oregon, Friday.
Coast Guard Station Yaquina Bay in Newport received a report from the Lincoln County dispatch that two children aged 16 and 10 had become trapped on the rocks at Agate Beach near Yaquina Head, Ore.
Small boat crews and fire/rescue teams were unable to safely reach the children so an HH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport was launched to the scene. Both children were safely hoisted from the rocks to waiting rescue crews on the beach. There were no injuries reported.
The Coast Guard encourages beachgoers to exercise extreme caution when exploring the beaches along the Pacific Northwest coast. In addition to dangerous rip currents and debris, beachgoers can quickly become stranded by incoming tides.
