New York – The Coast Guard Cutter Bainbridge Island is overseeing salvage operations of a barge that ran aground approximately one mile west of the East Rockaway Inlet around 5 p.m. today.
The tugboat Jenny Anne reportedly lost propulsion before running aground with the Elko Princess in tow.
The tugboat has 1,000 gallons of diesel fuel aboard. Tug
regained power and was freed around 8 p.m., with no release of
pollution. The barge remains aground, the cargo concerns are
The boats were traveling from East Rockaway enroute to the Port of New York.
The cause of this incident is under investigation.
