MIAMI — Three people were transported to medical services by the Coast Guard after a boat collision four miles west of Key Biscayne, Florida, Saturday night.
Coast Guard Sector Miami watchstanders received a 911 dispatch relay at 10:11 p.m. reporting a 68-foot motor yacht had collided with a 27-foot pleasure craft. Three people from the smaller boat fell into the water during the incident. They were later pulled to safety by people aboard the motor yacht.
A Coast Guard Station Miami Beach boatcrew arrived on scene a short time later, provided basic medical attention, and transported the three boaters to a higher level of medical care. One person was taken to Mercy Hospital in Miami. The two others were transferred to a Miami-Dade Fire Rescue boat crew and taken to Ryder Trauma Center.
Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is investigating the cause of the collision.
