Three crewmembers aboard downed helicopter return from Utah

ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. – Family and friends welcomed home Coast Guard crewmembers Saturday at Air Station Elizabeth City. Three of the men that were aboard an MH-60T Jayhawk helicopter that went down near Salt Lake City return to their home base aboard an HC-130J Hercules aircraft.

The three that returned were Cmdr. Patrick Shaw, 37, of Juneau, Alaska; Petty Officer 3rd Class Darren M. Hicks, 22, of Oroville, Wash.; and Petty Officer 3rd Class Edward Sychra, 26, of Blanchard, Idaho. The four men that were aboard the accompanying helicopter also returned.

Capt. John Hardin, commanding officer of Air Station Elizabeth City, the home base of the Jayhawk that crashed Wednesday in Wasatch County, shares how glad he is that the crewmembers have returned home.
