SEATTLE – Two teens and one adult were rescued today after their canoe capsized in Tillamook Bay.
The three boaters from St. Helens, Ore., who were wearing life jackets, were found holding onto buoy 14 when the 23-foot rescue boat crew from Tillamook Bay arrived. The two man boat crew transported the boaters to shore where civilian emergency medical technicians diagnosed them with mild hypothermia and released them at the scene.
Coast Guard Station Tillamook Bay has five search and rescue boats, including: two 47-foot motor lifeboats , a 25-foot response boat, a 23-foot utility boat and an 18-foot flood response skiff. The 47-foot motor lifeboats have been designed for operations in heavy surf conditions and are capable of being rolled over by breaking swells and re-right themselves with minimal damage.
