Coast Guard continues to respond to sunken barge
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is continuing its response to a sunken barge on the Ohio River near Cairo, Illinois, Thursday.
The sunken barge carrying pig iron has been located near mile marker 964 on the Ohio River.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and Tennessee Valley Towing are developing a salvage plan to be approved by the Coast Guard.
The Olmsted Lock and Dam has been reopened.

Coast Guard responds to sunken barge on Ohio River
NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a sunken barge on the Ohio River near Cairo, Illinois.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Ohio Valley received a report at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday that six barges broke free from a towing vessel near mile marker 964 on the Ohio River.
Five of the barges have been secured.
One barge carrying pig iron sank and its location is unknown.
