Coast Guard opens portion of Mississippi River to limited traffic
NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard has implemented restrictions and tighter controls on the Mississippi River, Monday, following the sinking of three barges that sank near Baton Rouge, Friday.
Salvage operations for the barges are not scheduled to begin until water levels have reached a level that is deemed safe.

Baton Rouge, LA – Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit Baton Rouge will hold a change-of-command ceremony on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 9 a.m. at the USS Kidd Veteran’s Memorial and Museum on South River Road in Baton Rouge. Lt. Cmdr. Quincy L. Davis is scheduled to relieve Lt. Cmdr. Raymond J. Lechner during the ceremony.
