Coast Guard, local agencies respond to vessel fire in American Samoa

HONOLULU — The Coast Guard is working with the American Samoa Department of Homeland Security and local agencies to respond to a fire aboard a fishing vessel in the port of Pago Pago, America Samoa Wednesday.

American Samoa Coast Guard unit receives regional excellence award
SAN DIEGO – Marine Safety Detachment American Samoa received the Admiral John B. Hayes Award for Unit Excellence during the Coast Guard Foundation’s 26th Annual Pacific Area awards dinner in San Diego, Aug. 3, 2011.

Coast Guard responds to grounded vessel near Matuu Bay
Pago Pago, AMERICAN SAMOA – Coast Guardsmen from Marine Safety Detachment American Samoa responded to a grounded fishing vessel in the vicinity of Matuu Bay at 5:30 a.m., Thursday.
The fishing vessel Inja ran aground on a reef approximately 100 yards offshore while returning from a fishing trip. Another ship in the area witnessed the grounding and notified the Coast Guard.
