U.S. Coast Guardsmen, Auxiliary join Molokai residents for Native Hawaiian festival

KAUNAKAKAI, Hawaii – U.S. Coast Guardsmen from units on Kauai and Maui partnered with local Coast Guard Auxiliarists on Molokai to celebrate giving gifts to the “alii” (the ruling chief) and compete in team games during a Native Hawaiian festival featuring ancient ceremonies, Saturday, Jan. 31, 2010.
Hilo-based U.S. Coast Guard cutter back to port after six month drydock
HONOLULU — The crew of the U. S. Coast Guard Cutter Kiska returned to home port in Hilo last weekend after nearly six months in dry dock at the Marisco Shipyard in Kapolei. Yesterday, the crew welcomed state and county partners for an open house.
Coast Guard Cutter Kiska crew rescues missing jet skier
HONOLULU — A Coast Guard patrol boat crew rescued a missing jet skier approximately four nautical miles south of Koko Head Thursday at about 10:20 p.m.
Crewmembers aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Kiska, a 110-foot patrol boat homeported in Hilo, located the jet skier, Gerald Lum, after they noticed a faint light emitting from Lum’s flashlight.
