Coast Guard Reactivates Polar Star
Seattle – The Coast Guard reactivated the 34 year-old Polar Class Icebreaker Polar Sea on Wednesday. The ship is scheduled to undergo an extensive overhaul at Todd Shipyard with the goal of being ready to put to sea in 2013.

Washington – President Obama intends to nominate Vice Admiral Robert J. Papp, Jr., as Commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard. If confirmed by the U.S. Senate, Vice Admiral Papp would relieve Admiral Thad Allen in May 2010.

They gathered today in a cold rain at Arlington Cemetery to remember our fallen Guardians. They met, as they do every year, on Coast Guard Hill, where many of the heroes and leaders of the Coast Guard have been laid to rest.
