WILMINGTON, N.C. — Channel surveys in 2019 show water depths in Carolina Beach Inlet channel are less than four feet in some areas, prompting the Coast Guard to remove aids to navigation that may mislead mariners.

Carolina Beach, NC – Mariners are advised that Carolina Beach Inlet’s Aids to Navigation may be unreliable due to recent shoaling across the channel, with depths less than 2 feet in the vicinity of Carolina Beach Inlet Buoys 1, 2 and 7. This presents a potential hazard of grounding and damaging of mariners’ vessels. Mariners should exercise extreme caution when transiting the area.
