NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard is responding to a report of an oil discharge in Cox Bay, Louisiana.
Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector New Orleans received a report from the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office at 8:52 a.m. of an oil discharge in Cox Bay in Breton Sound, Louisiana.

Coast Guard responding to oil spill near Breton Sound

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and local partners are monitoring cleanup efforts following an oil spill near Breton Sound, Sunday.
A jack-up rig contracted by Lobo Operating, Inc., was used to pump water through the affected line, securing the source of the leak. Additionally, a drum has been secured below the failed portion of line to catch any further product that may be discharged.

Coast Guard Ends Oil Spill Response in Venice, LA
NEW ORLEANS — The Coast Guard has completed operations, Monday, as part of the cleanup of a pollution response in Breton Sound near Venice.
Oil Mop, the oil spill response organization contracted to conduct the cleanup, deployed containment boom in environmentally sensitive shoreline areas to mitigate the threat of potential impacts. But, there has been no product reported in these areas.

An HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft and crew from Coast Guard Aviation Training Center Mobile, Ala., conducted an overflight assessment and located a sheen one mile by 200 yards in length near north Breton Island, Thursday.
