Surfers rescued from Yaquina Head, Ore.

SEATTLE — A man and girl were hoisted from the rocks near Otter Rock at Yaquina Head, Ore., Sunday.

Coast Guard Group/Air Station North Bend, Ore., recieved a report from Lincoln County dispatch at 2:32 p.m. that three surfers were trapped on the rocks at Yaquina Head near Yaquina Bay, Ore. Coast Guard Stations Depoe Bay, Ore., and Yaquina Bay launched two 47-foot boat crews while an HH-65 crew from Coast Guard Air Facility Newport, Ore., was diverted to the scene. Coast Guard members found one of the three surfers safe on shore and proceeded to conduct a hoist of the two remaining people. Both were transfered to the shore with no injuries.

The missions of Group/Air Station North Bend include maritime search and rescue, enforcement of laws and treaties, providing aids to navigation, and marine environmental protection. In addition, the air station frequently assists Federal, state and county agencies by responding to calls for assistance with inland searches and medical evacuations of injured loggers.
