Station Wrightsville Beach responds to fatal dive incident off Carolina Beach Inlet

FORT MACON, N.C. – The Coast Guard responded to a diving fatality on Saturday near Carolina Beach Inlet, N.C.

Deceased is Corrine Pierce.

At 6 a.m. Saturday, Coast Guard Sector North Carolina received a report of an unconscious diver from the Hawksbill, the dive vessel on which the woman was a passenger. Coast Guard Station Wrightsville Beach launched a 41-foot rescue boat crew with a New Hanover County, N.C., Fire Department emergency medical technician aboard. Pierce received CPR while waiting for the Coast Guard’s arrival.

Pierce was transferred to the Coast Guard rescue boat after it arrived on scene but was later pronounced deceased.

The Coast Guard is conducting a marine casualty investigation of the incident in accordance with Coast Guard policy.
