Station Portsmouth rescues 2 men near Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel

PORTSMOUTH, Va. – Coast Guard crews rescued two men from the water after their boat sank near the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel Saturday afternoon.

Norfolk dispatch contacted Sector Hampton Roads and passed a report of two men clinging to the hull of their capsized boat near the HRBT at 3:50 p.m. They deployed a Coast Guard Auxiliary airplane, a Station Portsmouth boat crew and contacted the Virginia Marine Resources Commission and Virginia Beach Marine Police for their assistance.

The Station Portsmouth rescue boat crew located the two men holding onto their 17-foot center-console boat and pulled them from the water at 4:51 p.m. One of the men showed signs of hypothermia and they were taken to Blue Water Marina where EMS were waiting.

Both men stabilized at the hospital and were released.
