Station Pensacola medevacs man from fishing vessel in Gulf of Mexico

Coast Guard 8th District NewsMOBILE, Ala. — The Coast Guard medevaced a man from a 50-foot fishing vessel approximately 27 miles south of Pensacola, Fla., Sunday, in the Gulf of Mexico.

Watchstanders of Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a notification at approximately 8 p.m., from the fishing vessel, Fair Weather, that a man aboard their vessel was reportedly having a reaction to medicine he had taken.

Coast Guard Station Pensacola launched a 41-foot utility boat and crew to rendezvous with the Fair Weather. The crew successfully transferred the man off the ship and transported him to local EMS standing by at Station Pensacola.

“When something like this happens, when a situation suddenly changes for the worst, we have to be our best. That’s just what our public expects,” said Lt. Israel Parker, public affairs officer at Coast Guard Sector Mobile. “That’s why we train as hard and often as we do, for situations just like this.”

The man’s condition is unknown.
