Station Los Angeles Responds to Boat Fire

SAN PEDRO, Calif. – The Coast Guard responded to a vessel fire onboard the commercial fishing vessel, Mary Claire this afternoon.

The Coast Guard Command Center received report of a vessel on fire in the Main Channel in the Port of Los Angeles at 2:51 p.m. Local response agencies were able to assist immediately after the call came in. Working together to extinguish the fire, the local response agencies included Coast Guard Station Los Angeles, Baywatch Cabrillo, Los Angeles City Fire and the Los Angeles Port Police.

The 36 foot commercial fishing vessel caught fire this afternoon when it was in side tie to other vessels at Berth 72 in the Port of Los Angeles. Persons on board the vessel that was tied next to it noticed the fire and were able to cut the tie causing the vessel to drift into the Main Channel. There were no passengers aboard the Mary Claire.

The cause of the fire is still unknown at this time and is under investigation.
