Station Fort Lauderdale responds to snorkeler in distress

MIAMI – The Coast Guard responded to a snorkeler in distress approximately a half-mile off the coast of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Saturday.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Miami were notified at 3:45 p.m. that a 32 year-old male was snorkeling and was found unconscious by a good Samaritan. A Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale, Fla., 33-foot response boat crew responded, arrived on scene at 3:55 p.m., and immediately starting giving CPR to the unresponsive male.

CPR was continued while the boatcrew transported the male to the 15th Street boat ramp, where he was transferred to awaiting emergency medical personnel.

The patient was taken to Broward General Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale and later pronounced deceased.
