Special Local Regulation established for Thunderboat Regatta

SAN DIEGO –U.S. Coast Guard Sector San Diego has established a Special Local Regulation (SLP) for the Thunderboat Regatta scheduled to be held September 17-19 on Mission Bay.

The purpose of the SLP is to ensure the safety of the racers and non-participants, including recreational boaters, and inform them of the restrictions placed on Mission Bay boating traffic during the event.

The Thunderboat Regatta closed-course SLP will encompass Fiesta Bay from De Anza Point to Dana Landing. The SLP will be in effect from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

People and vessels are prohibited from entering into, transiting through, or anchoring within the SLP unless authorized by the Coast Guard Patrol Commander (PATCOM). Portions of the SLP maybe open periodically to allow for vessel traffic.

While on the water, boaters are encouraged to contact the vessels enforcing the SLP. Both event organizers will provide vessels marked with a large orange sign “Caution – Event in Progress.” All perimeter vessels will have informational flyers indicating the length of the SLP event status.

PATCOM can be reached while the SLP is in effect on Marine Band radio channel 16.
