MIAMI – Petty Officer 1st Class Jeff Meyer, a Seminole, Fla., native was awarded the 2008 Seventh Coast Guard District Staff Enlisted Person of the Year Award Tuesday by Rear Adm. Steve Branham, district commander.
The EPOY program is designed to recognize exemplary men and women from the enlisted work force from the rank of seaman apprentice through petty officer first class. Only those personnel who demonstrate sustained exceptional standards of proficiency and conduct, and whose military appearance and bearing are consistently impeccable, are nominated for this award.
Meyer, a yeoman, is currently assigned to the Seventh District Resource Management Division in Miami. During the past year, Meyer demonstrated extraordinary competence and professionalism. As supervisor of the Seventh Coast Guard District Servicing Personnel Office, his team provided a variety of administrative, pay, personnel and other functions supporting the more than 200 assigned district staff members and more than 10,000 active duty, civilian, auxiliary and reserve personnel throughout the district. He routinely served as a career counselor and mentor to both officers and enlisted personnel.
Most notably, Meyer excelled in his pursuit of self-improvement. He has completed his bachelors degree, and is actively enrolled in a graduate degree program in Human Resources Management, where he maintained a 4.0 grade-point-average in addition to his tremendous responsibilities within the Coast Guard
Meyer frequently dedicates personal time to community service projects. As the Vice-President of the Coast Guard Enlisted Association, Petty Officer Meyer has been involved in a myriad of community service projects including Monument Island Emergency Beach Cleanup and Hands on Miami KaBoom! Playground Build. Additionally, the CGEA has held fundraisers to directly benefit Coast Guard enlisted members who are suffering from personal loss, extraordinary financial peril and medical hardships due to unforeseen circumstances.
