NEW HAVEN, Conn.–Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound will host its annual open house event at its base in New Haven on Saturday May 15th from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The public is invited to explore a variety of Coast Guard search and rescue boats and witness Coast Guard helicopters from Air Station Cape Cod up close as they fly over Sector Long Island Sound.
“The open house is a great opportunity for the community to see how we work with our port partners to protect the people and the environment in this area,” said Capt. Daniel Ronan, Coast Guard Captain of the Port of Long Island Sound. “It will be a great time for the whole family.”
Also at the open house:
- Local police and fire department marine units will offer demonstrations of their boats.
- Coast Guard Auxiliary and New Haven Power Squadron will be available to discuss boating safety and paddle smart activities.
- Environmental organizations, such as the Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection, will be there to discuss issues that affect Long Island Sound.
- Army Black Hawk Helicopter will be on display.
- Hot dogs, burgers, chips, soda and a variety of baked goods will be for sale.
Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound is located at 120 Woodward Ave in New Haven, exit 50 from I-95.
