JUNEAU, Alaska – The Regional Examination Center (REC) formerly located at the Coast Guard Sector Juneau Office on Sherwood Lane will begin operating from their new location in the Mendenhall Mall Monday.
As part of the nationwide restructuring and centralization of the Mariner Licensing and Documentation (MLD) program, REC Juneau became a field unit of the National Maritime Center (NMC), located in Martinsburg, W. Va. in April.
REC Juneau is now operating as a storefront operation where the staff will help mariners ensure their application is ready for evaluation before forwarding to the NMC. The REC will also administer professional examinations to mariners as part of the credentialing process.
For more information on changes to the MLD program go to http://www.uscg.mil/nmc or to http://www.homeport.uscg.mil and select Merchant Mariners under the list of missions.
The Coast Guard is committed to improving the MLD program through the restructuring and centralization project.
