CHARLESTON, S.C. – Coast Guard Sector Charleston is scheduled to host a ceremony June 14, 2010, at 10:00 a.m., in the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center here, to commemorate local enactment of the Coast Guard’s Rescue 21 Search & Rescue Communications System.
Rescue 21 was created to better locate mariners in distress and to save lives and property at sea, and on navigable rivers, with greater agility and efficiency.
Coast Guard Deputy Assistant Commandant for Acquisition, Michael Tangora, will join Capt. Mike McAllister, Commanding Officer of Sector Charleston, and Lee Wright, the director of National Communications and Homeland Security for General Dynamics C4 Systems, to speak about how Rescue 21 is enhancing mission execution and maritime safety along the coasts of South Carolina and Georgia.
In addition, after the ceremony, Coast Guard project officials will provide tours of the new command center and interagency operations center.
