BUFFALO, N.Y. (D9 Public Affairs) – Capt. Scott Ferguson will transfer command of U.S. Coast Guard Sector Buffalo to Capt. Robert Burchell, here, in a change-of-command ceremony Monday, July 14, 2008, at 11 a.m.
The ceremony will be held at Sector Buffalo, located at 1 Fuhrmann Boulevard here.
Ferguson will depart here to serve as the Chief of Prevention at the Seventh Coast Guard District, located in Miami.
Under Ferguson, Sector Buffalo conducted more than 2000 search-and-rescue cases; and investigated more than 150 marine casualties or pollution incidents.
Burchell is a 1986 graduate of the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. His previous assignment was Deputy Director of the U.S. Coast Guard Leadership and Development Center in New London, Conn.
The change of command is a time honored tradition and deeply rooted in Coast Guard and Naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command. The ceremony is witnessed by all members so that they all know exactly when the transfer of leadership takes place.
Sector Buffalo’s area of responsibility extends from Massena, N.Y. to Vermilion, OH.; and includes combined operations with other Federal, state, and local agencies, as well as cross border agencies in Canada.
