Search suspended for missing boater near Astoria, Oregon

ASTORIA, Ore. — The search has been suspended for a man at Tongue Point near here Sunday.

The Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office has dispatched a dive team to the area.

The Coast Guard and two Good Samaritan vessels searched the water for approximately six hours after learning the man and another boater were ejected from their boat after they struck a submerged object. One of the two boaters was pulled from the water by a Good Samaritan, but the other could not be located. Coast Guard Air Station Astoria received the report at 12:26 p.m. and dispatched an HH-60 helicopter crew while a 25-foot motor lifeboat crew left from Coast Guard Station Cape Disappointment, Wash.

The man was last seen wearing a camouflage jacket and green pants. Neither man was wearing a lifejacket. Anyone who locates the missing boater should contact the Coast Guard at 503-861-6211 or the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office at 503-325-8635.
