Search for Possible Missing Boater Underway Near Montauk, NY

NEW YORK – A search is underway for a possible missing boater after a capsized vessel was located 25 miles south of Montauk, N.Y., at approximately 9:40 a.m. today.

A Coast Guard rescue crew from Station Montauk is conducting surface searches for a possible occupant of the All Fired Up, homeported in Cranston, R.I., after a Good Samaritan reported seeing the capsized vessel.

A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod also conducted searches with negative results and no debris found.

Divers from the Suffolk County Police Department are enroute to conduct an underwater search.

“In addition to conducting extensive air and surface searches, we will continue to work with the Suffolk County Police Department dive team to determine if there was a person on board this capsized vessel,” said Lt. j.g. Rudy Gazvoda, Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound’s command duty officer.

The vessel has a small hole in the bottom of the hull, several three-foot cracks on its port side and a line fouled in the port screw. The vessel has a white fiberglass hull with black bottom painting.

There are no reports of pollution.
