HONOLULU — Responders continued the search for 3 missing fishermen off Oahu’s North Shore, Wednesday.
Searching are crews aboard a Coast Guard HC-130 Hercules airplane, an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter, a Marine Corps UH-1Y helicopter, the Coast Guard Cutter Ahi and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Coast Guard Station Kauai.
The search area now extends as far west as Kauai and north up to nearly 100 miles offshore, based on drift models. Weather in the area is reported as 23 mph winds from the east with waves at 6 feet and scattered showers.
Missing are Jensen Loo, Clint Oshima and Derek Tomas. All three men are reportedly 30-years-old. The Iwa was spotted overturned by the Coast Guard approximately 25 miles off of Haleiwa Boat Harbor during Monday’s search. They were originally reported overdue by a family member Sunday.
An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast has been issued alerting mariners in the area to keep a sharp lookout and report any sightings to the Coast Guard Sector Honolulu Command Center. Anyone with information that may help locate the three fishermen is asked to contact the Sector Honolulu Command Center at 808-842-2600.
The Coast Guard aircraft are from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point. The Ahi is homeported in Honolulu and the Marine Corps helicopter is from Marine Corps Air Station Kaneohe Bay.
