Ludington, MI —The U.S. Coast Guard and local first responders continue to search Monday for a man who dissappeared in Lake Michigan two and a half miles off Ludington, Michigan, Sunday night.
At approximately 9 p.m. EST Sunday, two men entered the water while fishing from a vessel. A third man aboard the boat called out for help via VHF-FM marine radio channel 16.
Another boater, who was approximately 60 yards away, immediately recovered one of the men, who was unconscious in the water, and transported him to local emergency medical services on shore From there, he was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased.
Coast Guard search and rescue crews from Ludington; Muskegon, Michigan; and Traverse City, Michigan; along with other agencies including sheriff’s departments in Oceana, Ottawa and Mason counties, searched throughout the night using helicopters and boats attempting to locate the man.
Additional resources remain on scene and are conducting an extensive search.
