HOUSTON — The Coast Guard continues to search for a man, Thursday, who went missing while fishing in Galveston Bay.

Thein Nguyen, 42, of Anahuac, was reported missing after he did not return from a fishing trip Tuesday evening.

Crews from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department used side-scanning sonar to locate Nguyen’s 21-foot White Osprey sport fisher approximately 1-mile north of Smith Point, Wednesday, after a good Samaritan located fishing gear that was believed to have belonged to him. Crews from the Chambers County Sheriff’s Department and Dive Team raised the vessel and determined that Nguyen was not aboard.

Currently searching are:

  • MH-65C Dolphin Helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station Houston
  • 25-foot Response Boat-Small and crew from Coast Guard Station Galveston

An Urgent Marine Information Broadcast (UMIB) was also issued to mariners as a caution in the area.

Anyone with information about the missing person should call the Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center at (713) 678-9057.
