NEW YORK – The U.S. Coast Guard will continue to search throughout the night for a missing boater whose vessel was found two miles south of Charles Island near Milford, Conn., around 4:20 p.m. Saturday.
Reported to be missing is Raymond Callan, 57, of Fairfield, Conn.
Callan’s boat was found under power without anyone onboard and doing circles by the crew of the vessel Carpe Diem, who contacted the Coast Guard.
A rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station Eatons Neck will continue to search the area near where the vessel was located tonight. A Coast Guard Falcon jet crew is scheduled to conduct a first light search at approximately 5 a.m. tomorrow.
The crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Sailfish, homeported in Sandy Hook, N.J., remained on scene overnight Saturday and continued searching for the missing boater today.
A rescue helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City, a Falcon jet crew from Air Station Cape Cod, a 41-foot rescue boat crew from Coast Guard Station New Haven and a Coast Guard auxiliary boat crew also searched the area throughout the day.
The Connecticut Department of Environmental Protection and Milford Police and Fire Departments also assisted in the search.
Weather on scene was reported as 10 mile-per-hour winds and two-foot seas at the time of the incident.
