WILMINGTON, N.C. — Santa and Mrs. Claus visited the crew of the Coast Guard Cutter Diligence Saturday in Wilmington.
Riding in a horse drawn carriage, Santa and Mrs. Claus made a trip to the Diligence to visit with the crew and their families, as well as some families from Coast Guard Sector North Carolina.
Taking over the captain’s cabin, Santa listened to the Christmas wishes of 28 children and passed out presents and Red Cross gift bags while posing for photos. This was all made possible thanks to the help and support of the Eastern North Carolina chapter of the American Red Cross.
“While providing year-round support for the local Coast Guard members and their families, the Eastern North Carolina chapter went the extra mile to make the holiday season special for the Diligence and her crew,” said Ensign Joseph Smith, an operations officer aboard the Diligence.
On behalf of the Diligence, the Wilmington Council of the Navy League donated $200 from the proceeds of their 3rd annual Diligolf Charity Golf Tournament to the Cape Fear Chapter of the American Red Cross in recognition of their continued support to the Diligence crew.
