Power Squadron to offer boating course

SEATTLE -The Bremerton Sail and Power Squadron will offer America’s Boating Course Saturday, November 17 and Sunday, November 18 from 10 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. both days. The class will be held at Tremont Fire Station, 200 Tremont Ave., Port Orchard, Wash.

Boaters may receive a discount on their boat insurance upon successful completion of the class. Pre-registration is not required. The course meets the educational requirements for boating operation in all states (including the new Washington State Law.)

The course is for all boaters. Subjects include boat handling under normal, adverse and emergency conditions and types of boats and boating terminology. Other subjects to be covered include recommended equipment and boating regulations. Course material is suitable for those 16 and older. Boaters under the age of 21 will be required to have a Boaters Education Card issued by the Washington State Parks Department starting in 2008.

The workbook for this class is $35. A $5 fee is charged for those (from the same household) sharing a book.
